Fibromyalgia Disability
Fibromyalgia And SSA Disability Requirements
Most people living with fibromyalgia know what a difficult condition it can be to diagnose. There is no medical test used to determine whether or not you have fibromyalgia, rather, it is diagnosed when your doctor has ruled out all other conditions and you meet certain criteria set down by the American College of Rheumatology. The disease is marked by long-term pain throughout the body including the muscles, joints and soft tissue. Sufferers often feel extreme fatigue, joint stiffness, sleep disturbance, anxiety and depression. By the time you get a fibromyalgia diagnosis, you may have had these severe symptoms for quite some time. In addition, your symptoms can often be made worse when you’re under stress. Many people have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia in addition to other chronic conditions.
Fibromyalgia may impact your ability to work. Some days may feel better than others but we know how difficult it can be living with your symptoms. Many people try to manage their symptoms and continue to work, however, at some point you and your family may have to face the reality that you are no longer able to do so. This is a very important decision so make sure to speak with your doctor about this, as well. If your fibromyalgia diagnosis is keeping you from working, we may be able to help.
If you can no longer work due to your fibromyalgia or other disabling conditions, you should consider applying for Social Security Disability. Applying for Social Security Disability can be a long and trying process, especially for someone with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia and its causes are not yet clearly understood, so sometimes examiners are unable to classify these cases, and sometimes doubts are raised about its existence. The last thing you need is the frustrating process of dealing with the Social Security Administration making you feel worse.
